警察唐（格伦·福特 Glenn Ford 饰）爱上了风情万种的卡门（丽塔·海华斯 Rita Hayworth 饰），之后，卡门因为寻衅滋事而遭到了逮捕，唐放走了她。同样也在热烈的追求卡门的，还有唐的上司楚尼卡，唐因此和楚尼卡之间发生了严重的冲突，唐就此被逐出警队，加入了卡门的地下走私集团，走上了犯罪的道路。 唐的前女友米卡埃拉不忍心看到唐就这样误入歧途，于是前去劝说，与此同时，斗牛士埃斯卡米里奥也深深的爱上了卡门，唐和埃斯卡米里奥决定以决斗的方式来决定谁将拥有卡门。然而，卡门心中真正渴望的并不是男人，而是自由，当卡门拒绝了唐的求爱后，唐在愤怒之中杀死了卡门。
Plot Summary:Following the plot of the opera, "Carmen," this story follows the wild gypsy's adventures as a siren and bandit. Carmen lures an innocent soldier to his ruin, getting him expelled from the army. He then turns to banditry, killing Carmen's husband and others. All this makes for an unhappy ending with the innocent repenting his sins and dying for them.
